About the event
The European Universities alliances initiative represents a groundbreaking effort to reshape the landscape of higher education in Europe, fostering collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity among universities. As one of the main flagship initiatives of the European strategy for universities, alliances aim to ensure the global competitiveness of EU higher education institutions and promote European values and identity, while advancing long-term joint strategies for education and involving connection with research and innovation.
The final goal of the initiative is to achieve a total of 60 European Universities alliances, involving over 500 higher education institutions by mid-2024. So far, 51 alliances have been established, involving more than 430 universities and, in particular, 35 Italian institutions.
What is the state of the art of the initiative? How is the Commission planning to ensure the sustainability of European Universities alliances in the context of the future European education policy? What are the potential synergies between Erasmus+, Horizon, national or regional funding schemes? How to guarantee the right balance between excellence and inclusivity within the alliances? Will the Joint European degree initiative be implemented as part of the broader framework of the European Universities alliances?
This GIURI Open will try to unravel the complexity of these issues, bringing together EU policy-makers and representatives from the Italian education and research community.
